Knowledge Base: Widget Setup for WordPress Blogs

This tutorial teaches you in 4 easy steps how to seamlessly add the Promotions Widget to your WordPress.org powered website. You don't need to be a technical genius to follow this tutorial. Anyone with basic computer knowledge can add our promotions widget to their WordPress blog.

IMPORTANT: Currently, our widget only works for WordPress.org powered websites that are hosted on your own servers. Our widget DOES NOT WORK on WordPress.com blogs that are hosted by WordPress.

IMPORTANT: Widgets are sponsor-specific, i.e. each campaign sponsor in your Wildfire account is tied to a different widget. This means that one widget can display multiple campaigns of the same sponsor. For example, Nike could run on their website a Coupon campaign and a Sweepstakes campaign in the same widget. What's even cooler is that you only need to add the widget once to your website. When there are no campaigns published in your widget the widget will simply disappear from your website and when you launch your next campaign it will automatically reappear on your website.

STEP 1: Download our WordPress Plugin

Download our latest WordPress plugin in the WordPress plugin directory.

STEP 2: Upload the Plugin to your WordPress Blog

Login to your WordPress account and go to your dashboard. Under the Plugins section on the left side click on Add New. IMPORTANT: If you don't see the Plugins section it means that you have a WordPress.com hosted account and unfortunately our Plugin won't work. In order for our plugin to work you need to install WordPress.org on your own servers.

On the Install Plugins page click on Upload link which is located at the top of the page.

Upload our Plugin by clicking on the Browse button and look for our Plugin zip file on your desktop. Once you find the file click on the Install Now button to upload the plugin to your WordPress account.

STEP 3: Activate the Plugin

Once the plugin zip file is uploaded click on the Activate Plugin link.

STEP 4: Add Sponsor ID to Plugin Settings

Login to your Wildfire Promotion Builder account and click on the campaign you want to publish to your widget. In the campaign wizard go to the Publish tab and click on the Publish Now link in the Widget channel. Copy the Sponsor ID, which is the second number in the widget code.

Go back to your WordPress account and in the Settings section of the plugin dashboard click on the Promotions Widget link. Input the Sponsor ID in the text box and click on Update Settings. Once you've completed this step, the widget will begin to display on your WordPress blog. Please note, if you don't have any campaigns published the widget will not display. Only once you published a campaign the widget wil be visible on your WordPress blog.
